David Kleber
Ever since I was a child, I have been fascinated by patterns. I used to love looking at the sunshine reflected on a mountain stream. I spent many an afternoon looking at clouds and seeing dragons or bears or angels. The Big Dipper and Orion became my friends from the night sky.
In high school, I loved mathematics, particularly when
my ability to see patterns helped me to solve a problem. At the same time
I became interested in philosophy and psychology. Looking back, these interests
also were connected to my curiosity about patterns. How can our views on life
be classified? Are there any underlying principles through which a person
can be understood? Why do people act as they do?
As a freshman in college, I discovered another life-long passion: the mystics within any religious or spiritual tradition. Here were beings that could see patterns that were not visible to the rest of humanity. Their vision extended unobstructed from past to present to future. They could see the spirit shining forth from a leper, a criminal, a blade of grass. They spoke of a Divine Intelligence that permeated all creation. It was something that could be experienced directly by all that sincerely desired to do so.
All of these interests were part of the reason I came to
study Astrology. I began my investigation of the subject in 1973 and since
then have learned that being able to see patterns both in a chart and in a
person are useful qualities for an Astrologer to possess.
In the days before computers (yes, there actually was such a time), an Astrologer
had to calculate charts by hand. A strong mathematical background was necessary.
Philosophical issues are part of an Astrologer’s process. Do we believe
that we are fated by our birth chart? What about free will? What about the
meaning of a particular astrological configuration? How does the heredity
versus environment discussion apply to Astrology?
Psychology definitely corresponds to Astrology. There is much similarity between the understandings of Carl Jung and the insights of Astrology. Jung’s typology system involving Intuition, Sensation, Thinking and Feeling maps directly to the elements of fire, earth, air and water in Astrology.
Lastly, we notice the similarity between the mystic’s view and the Astrologer’s. The mystic claims there is a unity within all creation. The Astrologer seeks to demonstrate the unity within each person. Yes, we all have a Sun sign, Moon sign, Mercury, Venus, Mars, and so on, but they are all located within the circle of the Zodiac.
When a person becomes whole, he is able to easily express all the different parts of himself. When this happens, it feels as though he has become part of a bigger pattern of life. The mystics have said that to experience this is why we are here and that when we enter this lifestream, we are aglow with joy, compassion and intelligence.
When I do interpretations for a person, I draw on all my interests. Astrology is a wonderful tool for self-understanding. It is a language of the psyche and of the soul. Its symbols are rich with meaning to those who seek to understand them. If you are such a person, and if I may be of service to you on this path, please contact me. I look forward to our interaction.
